AI search, explained honestly
AI search visibility: what it is, and what it isn't
AI assistants and AI search features now answer many questions directly. This page explains what it means for a business to be visible there, how that differs from being ready, and where Insyte can genuinely help.
What is AI search visibility?
AI search visibility means genuine, observable evidence that your business, website or content is appearing in AI-generated answers — being mentioned by name, or cited as a source with a link to your pages.
How is it different from SEO?
Traditional SEO is about appearing in a list of search results, and it is measurable — for example through Google Search Console impressions, clicks and average position.
AI answers work differently. They summarise information and may mention or cite a handful of sources, or none. There is no single public "position" to track, and results can change from one question or session to the next.
What is AI search readiness?
Readiness is whether your website is positioned so search and AI systems can discover, understand and potentially use its information. It is something you can check and improve on your own website.
AI search readiness
Can search and AI systems discover and understand your website?
- Crawlability and indexability
- Clear content and a clear description of your business
- Sensible site structure
- Website health
- Useful, authoritative information
AI search visibility
Is there genuine, observable evidence that your business actually appears?
- Mentions of your business
- Citations and the pages cited
- The topics or questions involved
- Which competitors appear
- Changes over time
Readiness does not guarantee visibility. A well-prepared website improves the chances of being understood — it is not proof that any AI system mentions or cites you.
Why visibility can differ between AI systems
Each AI system uses its own sources, its own methods and its own way of deciding what to include. Their inner workings are not public. A business may be mentioned by one system and not another, or for one question and not a similar one. Nobody can promise placement in AI answers.
Why good conventional SEO still matters
Being found at all
Pages that search engines can crawl and index are easier for any system to discover.
Clear, useful content
Plainly written pages that answer real questions are easier to understand and summarise.
A clear business identity
Consistent information about who you are, what you do and where you operate reduces confusion.
A healthy website
Broken pages, redirect chains and missing information get in the way of both people and systems.

How Insyte can help
Insyte runs an AI search readiness check of your own public website and shows which checks passed, which did not, and what to do about them — alongside your search, website health and other connected evidence, so readiness is considered in context rather than on its own.
Insyte does not currently measure mentions or citations in ChatGPT, Google AI features, Copilot, Perplexity or any other AI system, and it does not give an "AI ranking". Where genuine provider evidence becomes available, Insyte will describe exactly what that evidence measures.
